题目: Convergence of Weak Solutions from The Landau-De-Gennes Theory to The Ericksen-Leslie Theory

摘要: In this talk I will discuss the asymptotic connections between the Landau-de-Gennes theory and the Ericksen-Leslie theory for nematic liquid crystals. I will present the main results that  the weak solutions to the Beris-Edwards equations converge to the ones to the Ericksen-Leslie equations in 2-dimension as the elastic coefficient tends to zero. The key point is that the limiting weak solutions to the Ericksen-Leslie system may have singularities. The main difficulties and ideas of analysis will be discussed. This is based on  joint works with Dr. Xiaotao Zhang.
报告人简介：辛周平教授是国际著名数学家。辛周平教授于1978至1984年就读于西北大学数学系并先后获学士和硕士学位，1988年在美国密歇根大学获数学博士学位，后加入美国纽约大学柯朗数学研究所并于1995年成为终身教授，2000年到香港中文大学工作，现任香港中文大学数学科学研究所执行所长、蒙民伟数学讲座教授。辛周平教授在双曲守恒律、高维激波、边界层理论、混合型方程、可压流体与不可压流体方程、数值计算和方法等方向做出了系统深入的具有重要国际影响的研究成果，在包括CPAM、Adv. Math.、CMP、ARMA等国际著名期刊上发表论文180余篇，google引用超1万2千余次，近5年 google 引用超4千次。获得荣誉包括：曾获美国 Sloan Research Fellow，在2002年国际数学家大会上做45分钟报告，在2004年的“国际华人数学家大会”上获“晨兴数学奖金奖”，教育部长江讲座教授等。辛周平教授是MAA主编，JMP 和 M2AS副主编，M3AS, SCM，《纯粹数学与应用数学》等十余种杂志的编委。2012-2016年任香港数学会会长。至今已培养40余名博士和20余名博士后，其中多人获国家级人才项目。
