Abstract: In this talk, I will first survey the major progress for hyperbolic systems of conservations laws in 1-space dimension initiated by Bernhard Riemann, and then I will discuss some difficulties and challenges in the multi-dimensional shock wave theory. In particular, some physically relevant multi-dimensional problems will be discussed.
