摘要:

  The kinetic theory is a useful tool for the study of gas dynamics in not only the equilibrium but also the non-equilibrium state. In the present lecture, we introduce thermally induced steady gas flows, which is peculiar in the non-equilibirum setting like the rarefied gas, the micro-scale gas flows. Experiment videos are also shown for the help of understanding the real world phenomena.

   It is well-known that there is a similarity between the compressible gas flows and the shallow water flows.In this lecture, we shall give a short review of this well-known fact and then show that the typical compressible high speed flow phenomena can be reproduced in the water table experiment. The water table experiment introduced here is designed for the educational purpose for the undergraduate students in our department.
