Abstract：
Vlasenko introduced a formal group law for a Laurent polynomial over a ring. We shall explain how to use this formal group to extract the slope < 1 part of zêta functions of hypersurfaces in toric varieties, and explain how this formal group is related to hypergeometric functions.
